convert -density 300 -quality 100 your_pdf.pdf output.jpg

300 代表 300 dpi

因為一不小心把ubuntu 11.04升級到11.10，發現《守望台書庫光碟2010》(Watchtower Library 2010)本來可以運作好好的，竟然不能工作了。底下是我找到的一些克服的方法：

因為是從11.04升級到11.10，因此我的wine版本是wine-1.3.28，而這個版本，也是出現問題的版本，原因在wineHQ的網頁上有講：

Watchtower Library 2010 does not work in wine 1.3.27/28

While this bug is not fixed you can fix it yourself. You need to remove a manifest for built-in version of MS runtime library. You can do this by executing the following code in terminal:
rm ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs/manifests/*.vc90.*_deadbeef.manifest

怎麼知道安裝的wine的版本？打開『終端機』，鍵入

wine --version

解決的方法
先安裝《守望台書庫光碟2010》英文版，之後再安裝中文版。我不知道安裝的先後有沒有一定，也沒測試到不裝英文會不會有影響。安裝方法跟一般的安裝微軟程式差不多。以中文版為例，放入光碟，打開『終端機』，鍵入

cd /media/WTLIB10CH

wine ./Setup.exe

就會進行安裝，安裝步驟你也可以參考下面講到的 -: an everyday story of country folk :-

安裝完之後，桌面會有兩個圖示，其中一個 .link的沒有用，可以刪除。雙按桌面的另一個圖示，名稱是『Watchtower Library 2010 - 漢語繁體字』，不能執行！

接下來用上面講到的原因，要刪到一個manifest，不懂是什麼意思。在『終端機』，鍵入

rm ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs/manifests/*.vc90.*_deadbeef.manifest

後，再重新雙按桌面圖示『Watchtower Library 2010 - 漢語繁體字』，硬碟開始愉快的旋轉，書庫就可以正常執行了。這時候如果有方塊字，請按F2鍵調整字體即可。

這方法我用了可以，給你參考。

The process for adding your computer is available at the Ubuntu One website.

Some users have reported problems with finding the "Add Your Computer" button in this process. We believe this is due to the Ubuntu One Preferences application (step 1) not launching your default web browser (quickly enough... or at all) in order to proceed to step 2. If performing step 1 does not open your web browser (or a new tab if you already have a browser open) within a few seconds, please

close the Ubuntu One Preferences application window (if it's already open)
open your Terminal (located in Applications >> Accessories)
and type the following:

 u1sdtool -q; killall ubuntuone-login; u1sdtool -c

This should force a web browser to open and put you at step 2 of the process. This is temporary measure so users can get up and running quickly. We will implement a more permanent fix for this problem soon.

Remember that you can add as many of your computer to synchronize with your Ubuntu One account as you wish.

After you have added the computer you are using, the Ubuntu One Preferences application will display your account information on the Account tab.

這裡是陸續蒐集到的一些OpenOffice範本

這是個Openoffice的擴充套件(extensions)，下載之後用Openoffice開啟，會自動安裝很多範本(templates)，例如一些商用的文件（信件傳真封面等），個人用的文件（包括學校論文的格式），簡報背景，簡報範本等。內容目前是英文：Professional Template Pack - English | OpenOffice.org repository for Extensions
還有一個OpenOffice本身的範本網頁，在這裡。語言選用英文的話，會有較多的Impress簡報範本。裡面含有一些RedOffice裡面的免費範本（RedOffice的網頁上面，有很多真的很精美的簡報範本，但是要錢）。
還有就是台灣2.0這裡也有，蔡志浩先生的作品，從很早就開始製作他個人的範本。
TemplateWise.com也有，不過主要是提供PowerPoint格式的的免費範本，而且每個範本至少有種不同的layouts，還有一些不錯的背景。OpenOffice的Impress也可以開啟使用。
還有，不要忘了OO Extra也有一些

想在ubuntu 8.04中連接無線藍芽滑鼠，種類為Logitech V470。

使用文字終端機，有人找到圖形的連些方法嗎？我沒有很認真找，目前還找不到。
找出滑鼠的MAC碼：可以用指令hcitool scan，就會出現滑鼠的廠牌跟MAC碼。
使用下面的指令連接：sudo hidd --connect 00:07:61:00:00:00　紅色部份填入剛剛查到的MAC碼。
就好了。

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 with Skype 2.0.0.68 installed. The webcam works fine in Ekiga but freezes when I use Skype. The freezing is pretty bad that I could not do anything with the PC. The only way was to unplug the power. :(

I read an article regarding the kernel webcam driver GSPCA/SPCA5XX, in which there is a recognized webcam list. I made sure that my webcam was ok and then install gspca-source with Synaptic. The freezing problem was then resolved. The webcam works fine in Ekiga and Skype now.

使用Synaptic安裝gspca-source 套件後，webcam就可以正常在Skype中使用。

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Ubuntu 8.04 Nvidia Driver Setting for Dual Screens

As I updated my Ubuntu 8.04 kernel to 2.6.24-23, my dual-screen setting got mess up. This seems to be a common problem but the exact solution is not clear at this point. I here provide the procedure that worked on my system. I have tried several procedures found on the webs but none of them worked out. The direction, through, was to install the drivers manually. I was able to do that but I kept encountering an error message when I run nvidia-settings:

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

I thought the problem has something to do with the xorg.conf. Luckily, I was able to find the very one version before I ran kernel update. It was renamed as xorg.conf.1. I replaced my xorg.conf with this version and started the following steps. I think this was the key for success.

p.s., My system is a 32-bit LTS version and my graphic card is Nvidia GeForce 6600.

1. Download the latest version from Nvidia web. What I got was version (180.22):

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.22.pkg1.run

2. Remove previous nvidia driers

sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-*

3. Shut the graphic interface off

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
Press Ctrl-F1 to use the terminal shell in text mode

4. Install the driver by typing the following line in a terminal shell

cd to the directory where I save the Nvidia driver
sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.22.pkg1.run
Answer No when asked to download the precompiled kernel interface from nvidia ftp site. (I chose yes and it said no interface was available for my kernel, which is 2.6.24-23 anyway)
Answer Yes or Ok to compile
Answer Yes to run nvidia-xconfig utility

4. Turn on the graphic interface

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

5. Saw the logo and got my dual screen back!

A few notes or questions:

Since I use the old xorg.conf to start with, I did not install nvidia-settings, nvidia-glx, nvidia-glx-new, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-23-generic using Synaptic. Not sure if this is the best way. Wondering if I'll lose integrity in Synaptic.
Do I need to install nvidia-settings and other stuff if I don't dare to change any setting?
To start a new xorg.conf: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
To turn on/off the graphic interface: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start (or stop)
To uninstall previous nvidia drivers:sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-*

Save the html file and open it with Firefox
Select the entire html document and Copy it.
Open a new html document in OO.o
Paste the copied html document to OO.o. The table and Chinese characters should be displayed in the right way.
Select the table only and Copy it.
Open a new spreadsheet in OO.o and paste the copied table

這樣利用Firefox開啟，解決中文顯示問題，利用OO.o的html編輯能力，把資料轉成OO.o的Calc試算表格式。

測試了一下PUD GNU/Linux 0.4.7.3版，需要設定ADSL網路，用到一些指令：

pppoeconf - 設定PPPoE的帳號、密碼，測試結果可以連上中華電信
pon dsl_provider - 打開PPPoE
poff - 關閉PPPoE
plog - 檢查PPPoE狀態(密碼如果輸錯，可以從這裡看出來)

ATKOSD.exe (5.5MB): is a process installed alongside ASUS Motherboards and provides additional configuration options for these devices. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
COCImanager.exe (7.9MB): cocimanager.exe is a Camera Controller from Logitech Inc. belonging to Logitech Camera Control Interface
Communications_Helper.exe (11MB): s a Communications Manager from Logitech Inc. belonging to Logitech
conime.exe (3.5MB): conime.exe is a process which is registered as the BFGhost 1.0 Remote administration backdoor tool. This backdoor application can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system. Note! If your system is using a non western language this can be a legitimate entry. DISABLE AND REMOVE conime.exe IMMEDIATELY. This process is most likely a virus or trojan.
conime.exe (3.5MB): also, a solution to unload conime.exe is recorded in here.
dna.exe (7.? MB): related to torrent. see here.

GAMIT/GLOBK is a GPS processing software developed by MIT.

1. Fix gfortran 4.2 problem: gfortran 4.1 is installed with Opensuse 10.3 but GAMIT/GLOBK requires gfortran 4.2.

install svn with yast (see documentation here).
download gcc (gfortran) 4.2 with subversion (took long time to download it).
see documentation, namely, gfortran on MIT's ftp site for the command of svn.

2. Configure/install/build gcc (gfortran) 4.2.

see the document installing_g77 from MIT's ftp site.
one typo found in the document: configure --prefix=/usr/local
at configuration, the screen will show

***....The following languages will be installed: ..... C++,java,....
Fortran is not included!

3. Check prerequisite for gcc: http://gcc.gnu.org:

under installation/prerequsite, it says MPRF should be v 2.1.1 or later.
MPRF is 2.1.0 on opensuse 10.2

4. Download MPRF source codes (http://www.mprf.org)

configure and installation (see Documentation/installing MPRF from mprf web)
configure/make/make check/make install

5. Redo step 2. The screen now says:

6. Following installing_g77 to complete the installation of gcc

看不見的塵蹣對於會過敏的人來說真的是很討厭，日本電視台教的一個好方法。棉被通常在太陽的曝晒下塵蹣還是沒法根除，所以日本人把過程試給觀眾看。先用高倍數顯微鏡在已曝晒的棉被上觀看，證實棉被雖經曝曬，但依然有塵蹣。把想要曬的棉被或衣物用最大的黑色垃圾袋裝起來綁好，一定要黑色的喔，因為黑色會吸熱，然後放在大太陽底下曬個1-2小時。因為蹣在高溫50度就會死亡，真的是有效。

汽車牌照稅、燃料稅與汽機強制險

網路輾轉流傳的一些訊息，原作請留言告知。

名下汽車超過一個月以上不使用，向監理處申請暫停行駛，停駛期間的牌照稅與汽燃費通通不計稅。以 2,000cc 的自用小客車為例，停駛期間每月可省約1,500元稅費，逾半年不用車，申請停駛的動作可以幫你省下近萬元稅捐。

由於使用牌照稅與汽車燃炓費都是按天數計算稅費，一般人往往忽略長時間不用車時，只要辦理車輛停駛手續，就可以獲得節稅的好處。譬如說，因公務被派駐國外，或分娩、出國度長假或短期進修等種種原因，長期不會使用車輛時，向監理處辦理停駛登記（需要用車時，再向監理處辦理復駛登記即可），停用期間就可以免繳使用牌照稅及汽燃費。

舉例來說，一輛 2,000cc 的自用小客車，一年應繳納的使用牌照稅共計 1萬 1,230元，汽燃費是 6,210元，假如有半年不會用車，只要申請停駛，就能節省稅費共計 8,720 元。

同樣的，若車輛不慎遺失，應即刻向警察機關報案，再憑警察機關的報案證明，向監理處辦理註銷牌照手續。財政部提醒納稅人，報案時切記應以「車輛失竊」登記報案，不可以「車牌失竊」理由報案，否則將會喪失申請停徵燃料費及使用牌照稅的權利。一旦車輛尋獲之後，車輛所有人也要立刻向監理處辦理車輛尋獲登記，恢復課徵牌照稅與汽燃費。

汽機車強制險有多好用

很多人只知道汽機車強制險：死殘給付 140萬、傷害醫療給付 20萬的保障，不知下列保障也都可以申請理賠呢 !

發生重大車禍時，通常是由救護車將傷者送至醫院，而救護車的費用或是救助搜索費都可以申請理賠。
車禍發生後，所有的看診、診療所產生的費用，全都可以申請理賠( 採實支實付)。除此之外 ,還包括轉院、出院、住院、往返門診的交通費用(坐計程車費用也可以喔) ，合理範圍內也都是可以申請理賠的。
因車禍住院療養，無論是否雇用特別護士或家屬自行照顧病患，皆可申請看護金 (每日 1000元 ) 。
若因車禍發生造成頭部、顏面部或頸部受損傷，導致遺存明顯醜形( 瘢痕、線狀痕、凹痕......)，女性可理賠至42 萬元，男性可理賠至26 萬元。
因車禍而造成被當事人牙齒斷裂、掉落或其他損傷，每一顆牙齒最高可申請1萬元理賠金。
車禍若不幸發生對方肇事逃逸，或對方並無投保強制險的情況，被保險人亦可向財團法人汽車交通事故特別補償基金會申請補償金，事故發生二年內皆可申請理賠。
強制險理賠不分道路責任或事故當事人造成的過失，皆可申請理賠，但事故發生時請務必記得要向警察局備案。

新證件上有 3組號碼：

身分證號碼 (相信很多人都背了下來 )
身分證背面下方條碼旁有一組號碼：空白身分證流水號
身分證背面右上方有另一組號碼：雷射膠膜編號 .

它們有兩個用途：除了用來控管空白證件與膠膜外，這3組號碼都是一體的，萬一證件遺失重辦.號碼都變動。影印時、記得把號碼遮蓋掉。

只要您使用麵粉不管是低筋、中筋、高筋皆可，再加上乾的菜瓜布，輕輕的把麵粉倒到瓦斯爐上，用乾的菜瓜布輕輕的刷，就可以輕而易舉的將油垢刷乾淨，如果很久沒刷還是要一點點小力啦！不傷玉手，不傷瓦斯爐，刷完之後簡直像換了台新的，瓦斯爐不再黏黏的，而是滑滑亮亮的，一點都不油膩了。

◎手機浸水小常識 !

前兩天手機不知為什麼，自己跳進茶杯裡，當然一陣忙亂，關、拆、擦、甩、吹，剛好人在維修店附近，趕忙送去維修，目前已無事。維修人員告知一重要常識，可提供給各位如手機要自殺時的緊急小常識，手機一進水，請切記不要作任何按鍵動作，尤其是關機（一按任何動作，水馬上會跟著電路板流串)正確的方法為馬上打開外蓋，直接將電池拿下，直接強迫斷電，可保主機板不被水侵襲。(打開蓋子一天後,就OK了)

◎馬桶不通?.... 碎冰好夠力!

家中的馬桶不通怎麼辦？一般的反應是買一瓶腐蝕性極強的鹽酸或「通樂」之類的東西解決。
其實有個更簡便、經濟、安全且有效的辦法，就是用一盆大約一公斤重的碎冰塊倒進馬桶，再按下送水按鈕，藉水與冰的沖力，任何阻塞雜物即可一沖而下。
